On May 21, an event in honor of a new cultivar of rhododendron, named "Qazaqstan", took place at the rhododendron breeding and experimental nursery "Babīte", marking the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence, which will be celebrated at the end of this year.

The event was attended by Kairat Kambarov, Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Latvia. The flowers of the new rhododendron cultivar are sunny yellow, which resembles the sun seen in the flag of Kazakhstan. An exhibition pit dedicated to Kazakhstan was created in the nursery and also another two new varieties of rhododendrons were planted in it - 'Dimash Qudaibergen' and 'Miuaniz', which were dedicated to the popular Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergen and his grandmother at the request of fans.
